Geometry In Nature Thesis + Custom Typeface

My design style is full of clean lines and shapes and neutral tones. Using what I know about photography and digital illustration, I was interested to find out how many parallels I could find between nature, architecture, and my own artwork. Focusing primarily on my own community- specifically northern New Jersey- I analyzed the relationships between natural entities, such as plants, water, and the natural color schemes and structures found in Earth, compared to manmade concepts, such as geometry, symmetry, architecture and minimalism. Although these “inventions” had to be studied and named by humans in order for us to fully understand their complexity, I believe I could argue that all of these subjects had already been created by nature before mankind even existed. Stated simply, nature was most likely the inspiration for the modern innovations that came after.

Using nature as my primary source of inspiration, I wanted to explore and identify my personal design style within the community that I live in and use this research to create a custom display typeface, which will be presented at the bottom of this page.
